Ryedale Meet Up

In July 2026, Caring Together North Yorkshire held the first Ryedale Meet Up at Pickering Recreation Club – and with around 30 people attending each month, we are now planning the fourth social afternoon.

Our Meet Up events focus on bringing together unpaid carers, their loved ones, and people living alone for company, conversation, cake and a variety of activities. Volunteer drivers bring those who need lifts while volunteer kitchen helpers serve tea and home-made cakes. So far, featured activities have included a trip down memory lane with volunteers from Beck Isle Museum presenting some fascinating items in their memory boxes; a lovely focus on nature which sparked some fantastic conversations; and an informative and entertaining talk on Pickering’s local history by John Kinghorn, volunteer at Beck Isle Museum.

At the October Meet Up, we are looking forward to sharing a virtual autumn walk with Davy Major, a volunteer ranger with North York Moors National Park. Several of you will already know Davy from his monthly ‘virtual walks’ which he started leading for us during the Covid Lockdowns.  At the Meet Up he will be sharing photos and video clips of autumn across the glorious North York Moors.

Looking back over the first three Ryedale Meet Ups, organiser and Development Co-ordinator Jacquie Cole says: “While these events take a lot of organising, it is all worthwhile when we see people chatting to each other, having a laugh over a cuppa and enjoying the different activities that we put on each month. It is wonderful that this new event has gained such loyalty so soon, and demonstrates the need locally for these kinds of opportunities”.

If you are a carer or person living alone based in Ryedale and these Meet Ups interest you, or if you think it might interest the person you visit, please contact the office on 07455 706501.
